Do
you currently have a cat or dog, and are facing problems
that might make you feel as though you have to give up
your pet? Have you found a pet that needs a home? While
we can't take every needy dog or cat into our adoption
program, we want to provide information for you to address
any problems you might be having and to help rehome a
pet if you need to.
Some of the most common problems that pet owners face
can be easily solved with some training and good planning.
Before you turn your pet into an animal shelter, please
review the information below for solutions. Remember, the
chances that your pet survives the shelter are slim, so
your beloved family member is depending on you.
If
you have found a dog or cat or have no alternative but
to give up your pet, please review the information below.
Remember that Atlanta has one of the worst pet overpopulation
problems in the country. Most rescue groups are bursting
at the seams and many are run solely by volunteers. Here
are AARF, we receive at least 75-100 emails and calls a
week about needy pets, and we just can't help everyone.
So, please be patient and polite when contacting rescue
groups. Offering to foster the pet or help with vet costs
will likely get you a better response.
