Athena came to AARF with her three kittens after being picked up by Dekalb County Animal Services as a stray. Initially she was very shy and reserved which made her struggle to catch the attention of potential adopters. After spending almost three years at AARF and seeing many other cats get adopted she finally got her first application! Their connection with Athena was instant, and something magical happened, she opened up to them in a way we had never witnessed before. Despite Athena’s Stomatitis condition, which led to the removal of all her teeth, this wonderful couple, undeterred, chose to take her on.

Their commitment to Athena was extraordinary. They recognized that her journey to overcome this health challenge was ongoing, requiring numerous visits to determine a permanent resolution. Despite the uncertainties, they embraced Athena wholeheartedly, demonstrating compassion and understanding beyond measure.
